Jesus knew his listeners understood harvest. When he told parables of sowers and seeds, of wheat and weeds, of soil that receives the Word, he was speaking to people whose lives ran on the rhythm of planting and reaping. They knew what every farmer still knows today: a harvest is never an accident. It is the fruit of what has been tended, watered, and rooted for a very long time. Long before the basket is full, someone was faithful in the field.

That is why we are spending these weeks confessing together what we believe. Our sermon series “We Believe” is not merely an intellectual exercise; it is soul work. Every truth of the Apostles’ Creed we speak aloud — about the Father, about the Son who was crucified and raised, about the Spirit who fills the church — is a seed planted in the soil of our lives together as a congregation.

And what grows from that soil is the harvest Paul names in Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The fruit of the Spirit is not manufactured by trying harder. It is grown, slowly and surely, in hearts rooted in what is true.

So keep tending your soul this October. Show up on Sunday. Speak the creed together. Unite in words of prayer. The harvest is coming — and it will be beautiful.
