Have you ever read a book or an article and gotten to the end and thought “that could have been condensed into a single sentence”? I have certainly had that thought about pieces of music before. Most pop tunes written in the last few decades are based off of 3 or 4 chords, which means once you’ve heard the first few seconds, you’ve heard the whole song, from a musical standpoint. On the other hand, there are many great works of literature and art that have so much depth that they take multiple experiences and sometimes many hours to fully comprehend. What is it that differentiates these two categories? Ultimately, it is the intentionality of the creator.

Sometimes when we step back and look at our lives objectively, it seems like a lot of boring routine, punctuated by moments of excitement. It can be easy to feel like we are stuck in a rut of the same-old, or worse, that our life doesn’t even matter. It is in these times that we must remember that we can glorify Christ in all things. Paul reminds us all in 1 Corinthians 16:14 to do all things in love. Perhaps even in the routine of life, the moments that seem inconsequential to us, we can find ways to show love to those we encounter. At the end of the day, it is our choice as to how meaningful we make our lives. Will we settle for an average existence that passes quietly by or will we choose to glorify God and serve Him in all things?
