My life has always moved with the rhythm of the school year. I grew up as the son of a teacher, watching my mom prepare her classroom each August and breathe deep relief at the end of May. Then I married a teacher, so the rhythm only continued. Now we have two children — one in high school, one in middle school — and the school calendar still shapes our weeks, our meals, even the way the light falls across our dinner table. Like the turning of the seasons themselves, there is a rhythm to life, and if we are not careful, the most meaningful moments can pass by as quietly without our knowledge.
The last weeks of the school year are full of these moments. Just as we enjoy the beauty of a flower, we pause to see the beautiful growth that God is doing around us…
Youth Sunday, when our young people lead us in worship. Mother’s Day, when we honor the women whose love has shaped us like steady rain shapes the soil. Parent-Child Dedication, when families stand before God to ask for help raising the little ones entrusted to them. Graduate Sunday, when we send our graduates out with our blessing.
These are the markers God gives us, woven into the rhythm of the year so we will not forget how good He has been. So this month, let us not miss the moments that matter — for these are seasons of grace, and they will not come again quite the same way.
